Do I need to use a flux with the Aladdin 3-in-1 Rod?

No, the 3-in-1 Rod does not require flux.

Can I use a propane torch?

This depends on what type of propane torch you are using and what you are trying to weld. The 3-in-1 rod melts at approxiametly 732 degrees Fahrenheit. The base metal has to be heated to this temperature to insure a strong weld. If you are using an industrial oxy/propane torch, this should be sufficient for most applications. For applications where the base metal is small a plubmer's propane torch will work.

Which diameter should I use?

The 3-in-1 rod comes in several different diameters. The diameter you use is dependant on your application.

Will the joint be strong enough?

If applied properly, the 3-in-1 rod produces a weld that is as strong or stronger than the base metal.

Why doesn't the weld hold?

If you encounter a problem while using the 3-in-1 rod, it is likely because the temperatures are not hot enough. Make sure your base metal is heated to 732 degrees fahrenheit before applying the 3-in-1 rod. If the rod is melted onto the base metal, without the base being hot enough, it will not stick.

Are there any other ways to join aluminum?

Aluminum can be joined by TIG/MIG welding and soldering. Using the 3-in-1 rod is the cheapest and easiest way to join aluminum. It doesn't require years of welding experience or special equipment to use.

What is the shelf-life of the 3-in-1 rod?

As long as there hasn't been heavy oxidation there is no expiration date for the 3-in-1 rod.

What is the difference between solid, resin, and acid core solders?

The difference is in the core of the wire, which effects how they are used.

What are the benefits of using lead free solders?

Lead can be harmful to ones' health and the environment. In many countries the use of solder containing lead is prohibited for certain applications.

What Is The Difference Between Welding, Brazing, and Soldering?

The difference between welding, brazing, and soldering is with the termperature range. Applications requiring temperatures less than 840 degrees fahrenheit are considered soldering. Brazing applications start at 840 degrees fahrenheit. Welding is the joining of two metals by applying heat or pressure to produce localized union or across the interface.

What Is The Best Way To Join Aluminum To Copper?

Our #33 Low Melt Solder is well suited for joining aluminum to copper.

Why Can't Hazardous Flux Be Shipped By Air?

According to the CFR, we are not able to ship hazardous materials via any air service. We are able to ship small amounts via ground service. If you require any of our hazardous materials to be shipped to areas requiring air service, we can make arrangements through a third party.
